Calculating monetary and non-monetary loss and damage of climate in Uganda

By Miguel Trillo

The Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCAL) facility of the UN Capital Development Fund is supporting Uganda to promote climate change–resilient communities through climate finance to local government to increase resilient investments to extremely vulnerable target districts.

Together with the NDC – Partnership of Action the priority is assessing monetary and non-monetary loss and damage of climate change in Uganda.

The main focus is the calculation of the damage and loss due to climate change that is not being taking into account in the Climate Adaptation Strategy.

The team mobilized by OIKO is developing a methodology to calculate the destructive impacts of climate change that cannot be or have not been avoided by mitigation or adaptation.

This innovative tool will provide guidance to the Ministry of Environment of Uganda to request funding to the forthcoming loss and damage Fund for Vulnerable Countries decided at COP 27 with a focus on local and vulnerable livelihoods.
